Kot’olin is one of the Sub-districts, of South Central Timor Region (TTS), in NTT. The lack of agricultural cultivation and know-how in managing natural resources, has encouraged Tangan Pengharapan to carry out its 13th session on empowerment training at the Life Skill Training Center in Kupang. The participants consisted of several farmers from 8 villages in Kot’olin District.
Participants who had attended the earlier training session at the Life Skill Training Center (LTC) participated in an exhibition held by the Kot’olin District government from 12-17 August, 2018. This exhibition was aimed at broadening the insight of farmers through the commodities on display, thereby awakening a desire within them to manage their natural resources to the fullest, and to motivate LTC trainees to be more actively involved in developing agriculture.
The display consisted of tomatoes, cabbage, chili, purple sweet potato plants, and examples of horticultural seeds. At the exhibition, visitors listened attentively to explanations about seeds suitable for their area and green kitchen programs (utilizing home yards to grow vegetables and kitchen spices). This exhibition had a positive impact on the visitors to the effect that some village heads asked Tangan Pengharapan to conduct training in their villages too. The Kot’Olin sub-district head also appreciated this empowerment program and asked the empowerment team to represent Kot’olin District at the district level exhibition. Hopefully this exhibition will motivate farmers in TTS region to work towards using their natural resources to the fullest.
